What’s in a logo?
Like any new company we’re very excited to be launching our new brand. But why get so excited about what is essentially a logo?
Well in our eyes the logo is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. It represents what you can easily see rather than all the hard work that has gone in ‘underneath the water’. The idea behind the Scandi Origins logo was to thread together three values that we want to embody to define who we are and how we operate.
The first is the concept of design that has its origins in Scandinavia. As a Stockholm native and with family from all over the Nordics I have a strong affinity with Swedish design principles and I’m immensely proud of the global design prestige that comes out of this region. It also fits with my deep belief that homes should be light and airy, and furniture and furnishings should be functional and practical as well as pleasing to the eye.
The second principle is my love of the ocean. I’m at my happiest when I’m near the sea and I love the designs that I see in beachside living. I think it lifts the soul, helping people be in harmony with their surroundings. I feel strongly that there’s a strong affinity between my native Swedish design principles with a beachside overlay. The two work in harmony with each other and lift what can sometimes be slightly cold, clinical Swedish design into warm homes with more of a fun feel.
The last and maybe most important is the idea of beautifully made solutions. In this age of cheap, mass production it’s easy to have a house that is fit to live in. However, I believe deeply in helping to create homes that people love and with this in mind all the solutions we make are beautifully made, with a careful eye to the little details that make a big difference.
So, there you have it, the ideas behind our new business. We’re excited to get it going and help create beautiful homes and marine craft that people love living and playing in.
Oh, and before we sign off from this blog a huge thank you to Cleay Perham, who transformed our set of ideas and thoughts into a visual identity we love. Never, ever underestimate the power of a talented designer!
